An investigative report found that while other grocery stores were donating food they didn't sell to local food pantries, Wal-Mart has been throwing their unsold food in the trash. Watch the report here!

First of all to News 4 KMOV, much appreciations for the news report. I congradulate the other grocer stores for donating food to the needy. Wal-Mart, shame on them. I knew the truth was gonna be shed. Throwing out food after it's in date to be taken out of shelves? Most of the food need to go for people who can't afford it. HEB in my native San Antonio donates food to the needy people including children. Throwing away food that is still good is not only a waste, but a pathetic excuse to save money! If I went to my store and spend $200 on food, but I didn't want it for my reason, what I do? Simple, give it away!

What investigative report, and which grocery stores? Most stores throw away their unsold food for legal reasons. The FDA is a bitch.

you have the bad to say about wal-mart, why not help, find an insurance company that won't cost wal-mart assco. so much & have better coverage, that's the problem, the insurance companies, don't want to cover their assoc. because wal-mart is too big, maybe, just maybe it might not be all wal-marts fault, hmmmmmm, not lets make it all walmarts fault. They but from China, who doesn't buy from China, JCPenny, Macy's, Target, Kmart, Dillards, Nike makes their shoes in Indoinisia(spelling) Toys R Us, name a company that buys everything made in the USA! You can't, Americans don't want to work, so don't open up these empty factories & make the toys in the US, lets keep the jobs overseas, & our people homeless & unemployed, but lets blame Wal-Mart for it all, not the government. That's ok blame Wal-Mart, I bet you shopped there today or at least twice this week, go one month without shopping at Wal-Mart!!!! Answer those questions, & post them so everyone eles can see this also.

I just wanted to say that I worked in the food department, and it was nothing to throw away a half pallet of bannanas. Sometimes we'd throw 5 or more carts of 50 lbs or more of produce away. It's sad, and the more I think about it, the worse it makes me feel. I'm going to contact the politicians in my area, and I ask everyone else do the same. People in power have a responsibility to the less fortunate.

Yes I know that wal-mart has been throwing away their food that they don't sell. Even if it is still good. I am appauled by the way they do that. I am an employee of a wal-mart in florida and with all the "below" poverty level families that reside here, I am surprised that our store doesn't give the food to help out our local food banks, may of which are empty due to very low donations. Just think of all the homless families and very poor families that wal-mart could be helping. Being that thier workers are so "underpaid", you would think that they would even offer it to thier employyes who I am sure could use it.

I worked in store and we threw out all of our food. Not an uncommon practice since people are lawsuit happy these days.

I just want to thank Sams Club for the great Christmas gift I got from them this year. I can see how greatful there were for all the hours I spent working and away from my family. What a bunch of ungreatful fools. I started when this club opened 2 years ago. I have yet to see anything from this greedy bunch. Thanks again Walton Family.

I work in the Deli at a Wal Mart and at the end of the night we weigh what food is left and print a lable and then throw it all away it is sad knowing there are people out there that need the food. Wal Mart needs to donate the food rather than writing it off.

You know that if Walmart did donate this food, this ridiculous site would say how bad Walmart is for giving away food they wouldn't sell.

Please Think before bashing Wal mart for doing such things. First, Anyone who has worked stockroom retail can tell you, if an Item, Say t-shirt is being pulled from the store, but not recalled, it is destroyed. As in, Run a razor blade through the shirt, and throw in the trash. Sound Stupid? Me too, but the stores HAVE to unless they want to get RAPED on taxes, and by the share holders. See, if it's not marked "Destroyed" then Actually Destroyed, it goes against the Books.
Second, This is Food, Past the Sell By Date. All it takes is for one person to get sick from spoiled food that came from the food shelf from Wal Mart, and they are guaranteed(sp?) a Lawsuit, and because they are a large Company, they are guaranteed to both, Loose, and have to pay HUGE compensation. This is a litigious(sp?) New world, and Large Corporations have to think about that.

Garet, I'm pretty sure if Wal-Mart had donated food, this web-site wouldn't bash them. What might they bash them for? Being good citizens?
Tony, you would be right about Wal-Mart worrying about law suits except for the fact that there are laws specifically protecting stores that donate food in good faith to shelters and food pantries. There was no justification for throwing out this food instead of donating it.

I just got a job with county animal control and Wal-Mart *does* donate bags of cat food and dog food and kitty litter to the local SPCA. I give them credit for that, since I worked for Petsmart for 3 years and the only way anything got donated to the local shelter or animal organizations was if someone bought it and donated it in the store. I still don't like Wal-Mart and I still won't shop there, but I have to give the local one credit for this one... I just wonder how much they throw away that doesn't get donated- I know Petsmart threw away a *lot*.

Wal Mart set the standard made in china Wal Mart pays 0.18 a hour to sweat shop workers les you pay the less you get
Target, Kmart and others pay 1.89 and up Wal Mart pays the lowest other than Dollar tree but Wal Mart sale every thing way over what it cost
when #1 discount cahin crush sweat shop workers to the lowest wage things go wrong
#1 discount chain takes subistys from goverment
Target benefits are better and Sears Holding Wal Marts being #1 chain should do the same if Target can do it i'm sure Wal Mart can do so but they want till media is on them
Wal Mart copy Target far as the stores did away with layaway $4. meds Wal Marts layout like a Great Land Target now Wal Mart try to layout there stores like a Super Target
a #1 Chain should be acting like one thats wht every one is all over Wal Mart Costco has great benenfits to but Wal Mart did get pace from Kmart and renamed it Sams club and down grade it
