As you all know by now, there are $600 (or $1200 for a couple) checks on the way to you. President Bush decided to give us all a bit of money back to help us out, and stimulate the economy. Of course, as soon as Wal-Mart heard the news, they were ecstatic. They even put out a formal statement praising the president. Yes, Wal-Mart knew that a good portion of that money would go straight in to their pockets. Unfortunately, with more than 70% of its goods being made in China, a lot of that money will go straight overseas, not back into our economy. So with the checks in the mail, we've kicked off a week of actions asking people not to let Wal-Mart send our rebate money overseas. Here are the cards we're handing out across the country. Keep an eye out as you drive past your local Wal-Mart, there may just be some local Wake Up Wal-Mart folks you can say hi to.

And just where does the money go if I spend it at Target or Sears?

You know, I was thinking the same thing before I got my stimulus: How are we stimulating the economy if my money is going overseas? Fortunately, most of it went to bill-paying. Either way, not so stimulating.
