Dancing on the Grave of America's Economy

photo credit: this photo comes from yet another stellar New York Times article

On the day we learned that nearly 50,000 more Americans lost their jobs, Wal-Mart saw fit to throw a party in Bentonville to literally dance on the American economy’s grave, It’s just another reminder that what’s good for Wal-Mart is bad for America, something its Chief Financial Officer as much as admitted when he said "tough times are actually a good time for Wal-Mart." Instead of celebrating the hard times Americans are facing, Wal-Mart should make the real changes to support its workers that would make our country stronger.

I dont get this. You take a picture from the shareholders meeting and then say they are danceing because 50,000 people lost their jobs??? They are doing the Wal-Mart cheer and not because people lost their jobs that is such a horrible thing to say. Why does this website take things and try to twist them to try and get people to donate money to them. Wake-up walmart twist the truth more than Bill O'Reily at Fox News

If you want to know what they were danceing to watch the meeting

Kim, many have stopped shopping at Wal-Mart, and many are doing more to try and change the corporation. More importantly, what we are doing here IS to "GET OUT AND HELP CHANGE THE WORLD." Sam Walton had some great ideas, but I'm not sure he'd recognize the current incarnation of Wal-Mart. Sam wanted to buy American, how much of that does Wal-Mart do anymore? Sam thought the company should leave politics alone, but recently the company has started lobbying a TON and started playing a lot of politics. Sam thought the company should take care of its own and treat associates like family...do you see that happening today? Instead the company fired, sued, cuts hours, cheats and lies to keep their costs as low as possible.

Alex, obviously the picture of the execs doing the Wal-Mart cheer connected to the bad economy is an analogy. The point is that Wal-Mart is celebrating their success while the economy is suffering. But more importantly, Wal-Mart owes its success to the economy suffering. Lee Scott has said as much.

you people need to get a life. Walmart does not force anyone to work for them. It is by free choice that we work there. Yes I work there. I am proud to work for this company and have never been treated better by any employer I have had in the past. Your comments from the shareholders meetings of course were taken out of context. Lee Scott was not trying to run the government. He is looking out for the over 1 million employees that he does care about. The dancing you showed was the walmart cheer that was done at our shareholders meeting. It was not a party to disrespect anyone that had lost their jobs. You can take anything you want out of context, however, every walmart employee knows that the company does care about them. I get a good wage and I have many benefits including health insurance and dental insurance. Why don't you stop trying to bring down walmart because you want to get a part of our wages. Why don't you tell the people what you are really after here instead of misleading them on the treatment of walmart employees. As for anyone that reads this site if you want to know how walmart treats their employees I would suggest you go to your nearest walmart and ask the associate. I am not asking you to buy anything but get into a conversation with an associate and listen to what they tell you. This is the only way you will find the truth..
