Walmart: The Newest Inductee to the Corporate Hall of Shame!

Walmart is the newest inductee to Corporate Accountability International's Corporate Hall of Shame. More than 10,000 votes were cast and Walmart got 15% of all votes, beating out Exxon Mobil, Halliburton and Countrywide among others. They join Blackwater and Archer Daniels Midland as inductees this year. Walmart was inducted "for displacing local businesses, failing to cover employees under the corporation’s health plan, and opposing legislation that would increase homeland security." An apt description, though we would add weakening Americas economy by sending jobs overseas, abusing foreign workers and wantonly using sweatshop labor, and paying workers poverty wages. So congratulations to Walmart, they've earned this one.

Here's the Hall of Shame 2008 site where you can read voter's comments, see the vote breakdown and more.

So you think Wal-Mart is the only corporation to import toys from China?. Well guess what if you buy any toy just about, it comes from some third world country or Japan or China, or some major production company found in another country. Doesn't matter of you get them from Wal-Mart, Costco, Sam's Club, or Kaybee. It all comes from somewhere else. Its called a barter or trade between countries. Its been going on for centuries and it not gonna stop just because some self-righteous union deems it so. They import our wheat and grain and cotton. you don't see them screaming about getting products from another country and "stealing" jobs from their citizens. Grow up and find something else to cry about. By the way, if I could profit from bulldozing over your tiny little lemonade stand and building my business there, you damn well better believe I would.

Hey, are you employed by WalMart, Anonymouse? Why not just post your name.......it could be a fake name and you might look like you had some guts?!

There are plenty of toys that are not from China. Look on the internet. Here is a good site: http://www.thisnext.com/by/organictoybox/

There are thousands more. Some sites to try are A Toy Garden, Natural Pod, Blueberry toys....there are a ton. The search term, Waldorf toys will lead you to small businesses that care about what they make (although I would not recommend a Waldorf education). Be sure to look, most of these sites have where the toy was made. Just don't buy from China. Its easier and less expensive than you can imagine not to set foot in an awful Walmart ever again!

Also, etsy.com. Look under toys. People make things, and they aren't giant evil corporations! Hurray!!!!!!

I work for Wal- Mart and i have read alot the stuff on your website. As an employee I am offeneded. First off, Unions are not good for Wal-Mart! Second i am sick of all you people saying associates are living in poverty becasue of low wages. If someone wants more money they either need to get a degree or find a harder job. Cus Wal-mart is not an easy job, but its not like working in the oil fields or in a factory. I have a car that i own, and a house and my wife and I both work at Walmart and have a large of amount of bills, yet we are not wanting for anything. Walmart works with me to give me days off when i need them, and to accomadate me whenever possible for whatever need i may have. So you people get down off your high horse and realize that alot of the compalints on this website are from jerks who dont want to work hard and want something for nothing. I get what i get because i work hard and get the job done! thank you
