We sent you an e-mail (posted below) asking you to write to the FEC and demand that they investigate Wal-Mart for their possibly illicit and definitely inappropriate, immoral behavior, and thousands of you have! We just wanted to take a minute to thank all of you that got involved and decided to send a letter.
If you haven't already, take a minute to click on the box to the right and write a letter to the FEC. We need your help to stop Wal-Mart from using their same old dirty tricks.
Many of you are as upset about Wal-Mart trying to intimidate their employees to vote a certain way as we are, and here's what you've been saying:
C. S. writes
Don't let Walmart get away with browbeating people who work there into voting against their beliefs and conscience. People are entitled to both go to work and vote as they believe, not as their employer believes. The time and money Walmart spends doing this must be counted as an election contribution, on top of all the money it already gives.
J. I. writes Voting is every citizen's individual right and it is no one's business to influence their decision making process, especially not their employer's. If these reports are accurate the meetings must be stopped.
K. B. writes I demand an investigation into WalMart's mandatory employee meetings and its attempts to tell employees how to vote. If it is true, it amounts to an invisible donation to McCain's campaign. WalMart should be taken to task for this outrage!
M. B. writes I am horrified to find out in this day and age a company would try to influence the vote where an employee might feel his job is in jeoperdy for how he votes.
S. V. writes Tell Wal-mart to stop intimidating their employees and let their employees vote in their self interest. This is terrible, where do they draw the line? No employer should tell their employees how to vote.
A. A. writes This is just WRONG!!!!!!
H. M. writes WalMart is unfairly exploiting the ignorance and fear of its workers in order to further its own agenda and not be held accountable for their numerous abuses. They must be stopped!

I dont see what the big deal is about Wal Mart trying get people to vote the way they want them too. The reason being that does Wal Mart go inside the voting booths with you when you vote? No, they dont . So how can they or how do they know how you voted when you vote, and you dont have to tell them. If people can be swayed to vote their way then they are very weak people to begin with. I think all of this is crazy cause the constitution states that people are allowed to choose so do it and that maybe too simple for some to comprehend

Uh, most of what you report is crap. Walmart has NEVER told me what to vote, they have been a great company, have worked with me when I went to college, they are flexible, and a good institution to work for. I have worked for them over 10 years and am quite happy with them. They are not perfect, but name another employment that is not perfect. And by the way, I make way over $9.00, what I make, It would be hard to go anywhere else, unless it was a professional job. I think you people should get a life.

You people are ridiculous! This is a country built on capitalism. They are doing nothing different than any union does! We were FORCED to contribute to political funds that union leaders gave to political groups that we would have NEVER given to! Good old Bill Clinton was the reason that China gained "favorable nation" status. That action is what allowed ALL companies to do the business with china that they do. Yes WalMart is #1 retailer. But Sears also gains from China, as does every other retailer in the country. You people need to wake up. Stop sending me stuff in the mail. That is just plain harassment! I notice there is no where on your website to stop sending us unsolicited crap in the mail! Seems to me you are forcing your views on me............hmmmmmm? Funny how liberals think that just because they feel a certain way about things means that all of the rest of us MUST think and feel the same way or we are wrong. You need to give all of the information, not just part of it! Wal Mart is the best thing that has ever happened to our little town! Unions time is past. Unions do nothing for workers any more. We have labor laws, it's not like the 30's when there were none. It's just another way to steal from ignorant people, and force them to do things that they don't even understand the repercussions of. How many trees have you wasted sending garbage in the mail to people that don't want it. Without giving them an avenue to refuse it? That is cowardly. But then people with an agenda usually are cowards, and fear the facts.

Wow every one needs to wake up to wake up walmart. It is a union sponsered website, that exists only to further its financial gain. Walmart has not told anyone how to vote in any election, that is the unions job supposedly. The meetings that they are refering to are on the Employee Free Choice Act. Which allows any union to take over without the employees voting on it. They only have to get 51% of the employees to sign a card, in which the unions use deceptive methods to get your signature. If the unions were so great they would come out in front and say would you like to join, why do they have to trick you into joining. As far as the pay issue lets ask how much do the executives of the unions make, I am sure its not under six figures. Wow talk about the pot calling the kettle black. I will never support any union for any reason and would quit a job if the union was organized in the company. Furthermore who would want to start a business in a country that a union can easily get in and basicially decide how things are done. Can't we all think for ourselves, we are not stupid, think about it before you do something. Its that easy and simple. Walmart is a great company and may not be the best in every aspect, but who is, is the union green. Doubt it, doubt they have even done anything to try to lessen our impact on the environment.

Unknown,
The Employee Free Choice Act doesn't allow unions "to take over without the employees voting on it". Rather, it gives workers a choice: would you rather use card check as a means of certifying the union or would you prefer to have a traditional National Labor Relations Board election? Hence it's name "Employee Free Choice" Act, because it gives workers multiple means of forming a union. Furthermore, arguably the most important piece of the legislation are new, tougher penalties for companies that violate labor laws. Currently companies receive a slap on the wrist at best when they violate workers' fundamental right to organize a union (stipulated in the National Labor Relations Act of 1935) and as a result, it's often a better business decision to break the law than to conform to it.
In addition, if you were legitimately concerned with workers who suffer from intimidation on the job, you would be equally offended by instances of employer intimidation as you were offended by cases of union intimidation. And as it turns out, the former is a much bigger problem than the latter: 46% of workers involved in union organizing elections report suffering intimidation from their bosses to vote against the union, whiles less than 5% of workers who sign union authorization cards report doing so under threat of intimidation from union staff. If you ever participated in a union organizing drive yourself, particularly at a heinous and immoral company like Wal-Mart, you would find that union supporters experience myriad forms of intimidation from their employers, ranging from verbal abuse, to threats of job loss, to actual job loss. For more, check out this great article from The Huffington Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/art-levine/wal-marts-anti-union-thre_b_117409.html
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the United States is a democracy (or more correctly, as Mike has pointed out to me, a Republic). Under a Republican form of government, laws ought to reflect the will of the majority and if you check out recent polls, you'll find that most Americans would join unions if they had the chance and support for unions among American workers has never been higher. According to Richard Freeman of Harvard University, 53% of non-union workers would join one if they had the option and only a little more than a third said they would vote against a union. In contrast, in 1984 about a third of non-union workers said they'd like a union to represent them, while two-thirds said they would definitely or probably vote against forming a union.
In other words, EFCA is not the evil legislation you make it out to be. In fact, as an Italian-American, I am rather offended by the anti-EFCA campaign's repeated use of mob themes in their ads (which strike me as a bit racist/prejudiced, though not as racist as John McCain). Employers, not unions, are the major source of workplace intimidation. And Americans want unions, not because they're stupid, but because they understand that a union means higher pay, better benefits, and more dignity at the workplace.

THE UNION WOULD BE THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO WAL-MART EMPLOYES THEN WAL-MART WOULD HAVE TO WALK THE LINE AND TREAT THERE EMPLOYEES THE WAY THEY SHOULD BE .

Please read the full article on the Wall Street Journals website. If this is "bashing" then all the larger companies, Target, AT&T, any Dollar Stores, any large company trying to protect their financial future... are doing the same thing. It is management and up that get the "education", not the hourly staff. Get all the facts, read the article and then decide. Leave your emotions out of it.

Hope: You are definitely educating yourself and looking for all the information you can on subjects. I guess that is why I enjoy our discussions on here. Keep it up. I know we don't agree on averything but it sure is refreshing having an educated discussion instead of an emotional brawl. In God's hands... Mike
