Wal-Mart may think they can just shut down a store because its employees decided they wanted a union and no one would notice, but people are sitting up and taking notice.
Here is a list of just some of the coverage this story has been getting:
Wal-Mart, Union-Busting Again [CJAD Radio]
Union raps Wal-Mart move to close unionized shop [Canadian Broadcasting Centre]
Wal-Mart to close unionized auto shop in Quebec [The Canadian Press]
Wal-Mart closes unionized Canada center [Real Clear Markets]
Wal-Mart to shut unionized Gatineau garage [Ottawa Business Journal]
Union attacks Wal-Mart for closing garage [The Gazette]
Wal-Mart closes unionized Gatineau shop [Ottawa Citizen]
Wal-Mart closes unionized Canada center [Washington Post]
Can you call (1-800-Wal-Mart) or e-mail Wal-Mart and tell them you think it's reprehensible that they are simply firing workers who chose to be represented by a union. Let them know that the world is watching, and they can't simply dismiss workers because they don't like unions.

Are you kidding me? Walmart workers start off making way more, almost 2 dollars more a hour starting off than I make being union working 2 years at a grocery store.

Why is there such a push for a union? We(my fellow associates and i) do not want or need a union. This company treats me wonderfully; it's the best job I've ever had. Have you ever worked there? Im going to say probably not. Anywho, please check out my blog of dissenting opinion and comment so that i might address these issues.

Jacob,
I posted most of this message on your blog as well:
I'm glad your experience at Wal-Mart has been so positive. We at Wake Up Wal-Mart recognize that there are certainly good things about Wal-Mart, and they have started to at least say they are improving things for their workers.
While not everyone has a bad experience, we talk to folks who work at Wal-Mart every day who were wrongfully fired, are treated poorly, are being abused, the list goes on. We are trying to improve Wal-Mart, both for you and your fellow associates, and for the rest of the people who work for Wal-Mart around the world. This include the 1.4 million associates here in America, but also the uncounted millions that produce the goods Wal-Mart sells. Can you honestly claim that Wal-Mart doesn't need to change their relationship with sweatshops and other exploitative factories? If you get fired in five years because the company decides your benefits are costing them too much and it'd be cheaper to hire a college kid (as often happens) will you think that's just fine?
There are many more issues with Wal-Mart, and that is why Wal-Mart needs to change.
