How Many Ways has Wal-Mart Been Sued?

Wal-Mart has been sued for a lot of things. They've been sued for discrimination, wrongly firing an employee, violating tax laws, violating labor laws, attempting to build a store when a town doesn't want them, causing injury, wrongful death, tainted goods, and more. But one we hadn't seen yet was anti-trust, but that's just what Wal-Mart is being sued for.

Apparently Wal-Mart made some sort of deal with Netflix in which Wal-Mart agreed to shut down its online rental service and direct its hordes of customers to Netflix and in return, Netflix would promote Wal-Mart as a DVD retailer. The lawsuit accuses the companies of conspiring to create a monopoly.

Add one more lawsuit to the pile. Can you think of anything else strange Wal-Mart has been sued for? Let us know!

Here's the full article from Bloomberg via the L.A. Times

Wal-Mart, Netflix conspired to create monopoly, suit alleges

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Netflix Inc. were accused of conspiring to create a monopoly for online video rentals in a consumer lawsuit alleging that the collusion drove up prices.

The two companies agreed in 2005 that Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, would close its online rental business and refer customers to Netflix, which would promote Wal-Mart's DVD movie sales, according to the lawsuit filed in federal court in San Francisco.

The accord eliminated competition, enabled Netflix to maintain monopoly power and led Blockbuster Inc. to raise subscription rental prices by $3 to meet Netflix's higher prices, the Jan. 2 complaint alleges.

I am currently employed by wal-mart. For the last 5 months I feel I have been discrimiated against and really want to sue them. Things where not so bad before I became a department Manager. However since getting my last promotion and getting an exceeds on my last eval so many things have gone down hill. I just now took the training class for department managers ( 5 months later). I have gotten chewed out for not knowing the things I should. I was givin a tiny book and told to ask questions, however when I ask managment for help they treat me as if I am a moron. I have been belittled in front of other employees, My associate was asked by a member of managerment if I had a drinking problem, I have been accused of messing around with an associate, there is more. Yesterday I got written up for attendence and a no call no show that happened on Dec. 22. The day Management told me to take off. First off my schedule does not ever appear on the printed schedules because someone keeps erasing it. I went mgt about that too. So if I dont have a schedule how can the system say I am late or not there? I was also told my mgt that I have a fixed schedule of 7-4 but I told them I couldn't work that because I have little kids to get off to school so they changed it to 830 -530. But I have 28 Tardies? The whole thing is so wrong but I cant do anything about it. It got worse after I wrote the district mgr because the mgr would not help. I know they are trying to get rid of me because I used their open door policy and because I am gay.

Unless you do have a drinking problem or have messed around with associates, I would say you may have a case. Find out who is handling the class action suits. They may be able to direct you in the right direction.

I was sexually harrassed by an employee from another country that does not speak nor understand english, while on duty. He is on suspension pending what comes out of the investigation. I asked the store manager how did he get the position, he could not give me an answer. Right now, I am looking for an lawyer that will take my case. What really stinks, is that the store manager or asst manager said anything to me, I am their employee.

Lisa they cannot talk about anything that has to do with another associate it is confidentiality. Becky I think it is VERY unlikely that everyone up to District Manager is discriminating against you because you are gay. Times have changed people regardless of their feelings have learned to tolerate those things. My old dept. manager was gay, she has never said anything about feeling discriminated against. She has even been interviewed for Asst. Mngr. Yeah maybe one person could feel that way(not saying it is right) but human beings are human beings!
