Walmart Workers Go to Washington

Check it out, over 100 Walmart employees from 17 states are going to Washington, DC to brief congressional staff on their experiences at Walmart, specifically the wages and benefits at Walmart. Here's the media advisory:

Nearly 100 Workers Representing Their Home Stores Will Come to Washington, DC This Week

Washington, DC – Nearly 100 Walmart workers from 17 states will come to Washington, DC this week for a national organizing committee meeting, and to brief Congressional staff on working conditions at America’s number one private employer and why they need a union voice in the workplace.

Workers from Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin, will be available to speak to reporters following the briefing with Congressional staff:

Despite Walmart’s long and well-documented history of anti-worker activities, associates say they are emboldened by the election of Barack Obama and the introduction of the Employee Free Choice Act in Congress. Ten of these workers shared their stories in a new video, released last week.

Walmart Workers for Change is a new campaign made up of thousands of Walmart workers joining together to form a union and negotiate better benefits, higher wages, and more opportunity for a better future.

The campaign is a project of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), America’s neighborhood union. The UFCW represents 1.3 million workers nationwide, with nearly one million working in the supermarket industry. Many of UFCW members also work at national retail stores such as Bloomingdales, Macys, H&M, Modell’s Sporting Goods, Saks Fifth Avenue, RiteAid, CVS, and Syms.

I got Terminated from Sam's Club 6625 on August the 28 2002 location at 12920 Foothill Bl San Feranado Ca 91340 because I was rude to Member like I hit the member with a Basket and call Her name on August the 26 2002 becaues it is was too hot in the San Feranado Valley Ca I am very sorry i don't mean be rude to Member like I hit the Member with a Basket and call Her name they won't rehire Me back if they rehire Me back the Member will sue Sam's Club and they will lose their business if they rehire Me back I promise I won't be rude to Member no more and I promise I won't hit the Member with a Basket no more and I promise I won't call Her name no more I promise I will apologize to the Member and say I am very sorry I don't mean be rude to Her like I hit Her with a Basket and call Her name I promise I will tell the Member I won't be rude to You no more and not to hit You with a Basket and not call You name no more and I promise I will tell Her I will be polite to You and I promise I will do My work with respect to Member Sam's Club 6625 Phone number is 818-365-7710

Walmart used to be favorite place to shop till 6 19 2009 at 6:15 PM. The managers name was Tavorri. I asked the vegetable / produce associate person that the paper roll was empty and I was shifting through the cherries of which the bags were wet / leaking. thus I was hoping he will just get the paper. Any how, while I was waiting outside the area I peeked inside and yelled for somebody in a friendly tone, like helllooo. The person came and accused me of calling him names, and he started calling me names and stuff like why don't you come inside and we will take it up there. He was either hearing wrong or stressed out. So, I asked for the manager and waited another 30 mins. for him to arrive. I first took him to the two towel dispensers to show him that they were empty, and thats why I had asked the person for some and he called me names. Mr. Tavorris went inside and told me that I had to leave and if I had any complains then call 18009256278. I was shocked and asked him how he could beleive the young lad and not me? I am 52 this kid was maybe 22. Besides, why would a normal human being just go crazy and call names to people, especially a customer who has no relation to any one there. I told Mr. Tavorris the same thing. Do realize I go to Walmart at least twice a week because I live nearby, and a know quite of the old timers there. I also run a local business which is a fairly famous place and even people who work at walmart come there. I wish I had the produce kids name. Anyway, Mr. Tavorris called the cops and Out of defiance I waited for another 30 mins or so for the police to arrive only to tell me that I had to leave because Mr. Tavorris was the manager and he had the right to do so. I would have to file a complain at the station. I was tired and I left. I think Mr. Tavorris is a racist, just because the produce person was black and so is he I was not beleived. Logic, why would I just call people names for no reason, besides I thought I was helping them by letting them know.
